Matt Davies
Matt Davies is UK Public Policy Lead at the Ada Lovelace Institute, an independent research institute based in London and Brussels with a mission to make data and AI work for people and society.
As Ada’s UK Public Policy Lead, Matt is responsible for leading and delivering Ada’s influencing and engagement strategy on AI policy in the UK. They have current research interests in industrial policy for AI and the political economy of regulation.
Prior to joining Ada, Matt worked at the Open Data Institute (ODI) as a senior member of the policy team. During their time at the ODI, they led programmes of work on data for climate action, on novel approaches to policymaking, and on participatory data stewardship.
Matt’s other previous roles include working for the UK Labour Party, including as a political advisor to members of the Shadow Cabinet; as a researcher for Shadow Industrial Strategy Minister Chi Onwurah MP; and on a digital economy research project at the UK’s innovation foundation, Nesta.
Matt holds first class degrees from the universities of Oxford and London in history, English literature, and philosophy.
